今日はISOのサーベイランス（定期審査）
今日は朝から昨年取得したISO9001:2008のサーベイランスを受けています。
朝一は経営者とISO品質管理責任者が審査対象。副社長、工場長、私、通訳の4人で臨みます。
通訳を介すと時間もかかるし、ダイレクトに伝わってしまうこともあるので英語も交えて時間短縮を図りました。

I think networking sites are one of the boons of the world. Surely, people can get information from networking sites if it satisfies their requirement and enables them to interact easily and quickly.
But what about the results of this development? I think people may forgot how to talk face to face and easily offend other people because they can't see how other people react.
Almost all people who use networking sites frequently lack the ability to choose the correct information from unarranged information due to a lack of intelligence.

実は優しくて、人に気をつかうベトナム人
ベトナム人複数とカラオケに行ったとします。
物凄く歌が下手な人がいたとします。笑っちゃうくらいに。
周りのベトナム人たちは一緒に歌うようにします。笑わないように（下手な人の歌が聞こえないように）。下手な歌声が隠れるように。
優しいベトナム人。人に気をつかうベトナム人。

In Ho Chi Minh City, there are some events relating to Ha Noi's 1,000th anniversary but they are not as impressive as the ones taking place in Ha Noi.
I've also seen some TV programme about it but feel the event lacks enthusiasm in HCM City.
I think that this event could potentially be transformative for Viet Nam's global image but I am not sure that enough preparation has taken place for that to happen.

今週の採用記事（ハノイにおける南京虫の大発生について）
So far, I have not found bedbugs in my home or office both in Japan and Viet Nam and I don't know exactly why that is. In Japan, we don't have bedbugs nowadays because of effective pesticides. However, I have some experience of bugs such as fleas and ticks in my home, Viet Nam. I always use effective pesticides used by the Japanese army to get rid of them and insect powders which are used by the US Army to avoid being stung.
Once this kind of problem appears, public health centres usually inspect and try to find the cause immediately, and educate people widely. Public health centres in Japan usually provide this as a free service not only for this kind of issue, but also other issues, so people do not hesitate to keep in touch with them.
People think that an unhygienic environment is the main reason for this problem but I worry climate change or chemical substance are the culprits.
The Vietnamese Government should take measures to sweep away the image of this issue because many tourists think that Viet Nam is one of the safest, cleanest countries in the world.

I saw big size paper motorcycles, cars, mobile phones and houses burnt as offerings when I came to Viet Nam. After my Vietnamese wife explained things, I realised comparisons could be made with the Bon festival in the middle of August.
At that time, we have a custom called Mukaebi, where a small fire is lit at the gate of a house in the evening of the first day to welcome back departed souls. Then, on the final night of the festival, there is Okuribi, a ceremonial bonfire to see off the spirits.
We also make a horse out of cucumber at Mukaebi so that the spirit of the departed person can return to earth faster. We also make a cow out of eggplant so the spirits return to the other world more slowly.
Comforting the spirit of the dead is different in many countries, but perhaps it can be argued that too much is spent on offerings in Viet Nam nowadays. Some might argue that people go to the other world without discrimination, so what is the point of spending so much money?
But I believe it is important to explain the meaning of rituals, as I always explain the meaning of both Japanese and Vietnamese rituals to my son.

Japan trades hazardous waste with other countries, especially with developing countries, because the fee of waste disposal is cheaper than in Japan and other advanced countries. We have a few imports for recycling and many exports for disposal.
If illegal hazardous wastes are found in containers or other places, the owners are sentenced up to 5 years of penal servitude, or fined up to US$100,000 if the owner is an individual, and as much as $1 million if the owner is a corporation.
Japan became a member of the Basel Convention in 1993 and established a domestic law according to the Basel Convention which strictly regulated hazardous waste imports/exports.
Citizens are also concerned about hazardous waste and the treatment of waste, and sometimes strong citizen movements appear when they have some trouble with disposal traders, because we have many experiences of environmental pollution caused by industrial hazardous wastes.
From what I know, Viet Nam has ratified the Basel Convention since 2005, but it seems that regulations have been loosely enforced here. At least the fines should run into the astronomical numbers, the same as in Japan.

I have a motorcycle and a car and use A92 or A95 for both. I was not familiar with E5 petrol until I read the topic for the week.
In my country, environmentally-friendly fuel is not popular but scientists are very eager to find a new type of fuel for machinery and automobiles. Why? Because Japan is poor in natural resources and these, especially oil, will be exhausted in the future.
Bio-fuel can both protect the environment and prove a counter-measure to the oil producing countries.

先生が決まったって。
幼稚園から連絡があり、息子のクラスの新しい担任が決まったそうです。1学期に5人いた先生、3人が退職、新しい3人の先生を迎え2学期を開始させるとのこと。9月3日は秋季特別休暇なので幼稚園の様子でも見に行こうかと。それにしても退職した3人の中の一番若くて根性がありそうな先生が辞めたのには驚きました。
今でも健在な歴史上の人物
日本の高等学校の世界史の教科者にも出てくるベトナムの英雄、ボーグエンザップ閣下が明日で100歳の誕生日を迎えられます。アジアにおいても、世界においても歴史の教科書に載るような人が今でも健在なのには驚きです。

Tiếng Anh là một ngôn ngữ trên toàn thế giới và chúng tôi có thể thưởng thức giao tiếp với người nước ngoài sử dụng tiếng Anh. English is a worldwide language and we can enjoy communicating with foreigners using English. However there are still some countries where English has not penetrated deeply such as Japan, Thailand, North Korea and Viet Nam. I guess each country is proud of their own language or culture so they don't need English conversation in their daily life.
I have tried to learn Vietnamese for the past decade, but I am always blocked by difficult pronunciation and rich vocabulary. For me, Vietnamese language is easy to read because once I can translate the meaning of Vietnamese words into Kanji (similar to Chinese character), it's easy for me to learn by heart. But nothing is more important to Vietnamese language than its pronunciation.
There is no easy road to learning Vietnamese! Foreigners who would like to learn Vietnamese must follow the steps in learning pronunciation. I failed this step and got in the habit of mispronouncing my words that lead to arguments over pronunciation with my Vietnamese wife.

先週は2週間ぶりに記事採用。インフルエンザでダウンしていたので記事の掲載が遅れました。
Every day, I watch the weather forecasts on TV because I drive a motorbike or car. In Japan, weather reports were once done by government officers from the Meteorological Agency - and some times they were far from accurate.
Twenty years ago, there was a big volcanic eruption in the Kyushu islands, south-west of Japan. There were some indications of the trouble brewing, but no official announcements were issued by government authorities. As a result, about 50 people died and the disaster triggered a remarkable change in the forecasting system.
This partly led to the introduction of a state examination for weather forecasters. Now, television predictions are always done by certified forecasters who have passed the exam. Forecasts are more accurate and people have better knowledge of the weather.
In addition, we have many institutes which predict earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and other natural disasters.

調子に乗って空港ターミナル内に入ると・・・。
昨晩のドライブでは、国際空港内のターミナルまで車を入れてみたのですが、出るときに5,000VNDを徴収されてしまいました。まぁそんなに高いわけではないのですが、料金がかかるとは・・・。走る場所も良く考えないと。
交通警察に捕まるが・・・。
昨晩、家族でドライブ中の出来事。
交通警察官２名が白バイで追いかけてきました。何も違反はしていないはずですが？？？
外国人のドライバーとは思わなかったようです。驚いてたどたどしい英語で「ヘッドライトをきちんとつけて安全運転でお願いします。」とのこと。きちんとライトはついています。
つまり、新車狙いの賞金稼ぎみたいです。まさか外国人が運転しているとは思わなかったのでしょう。きちんと免許もあり、車の登録書類もあり、違反は何もなく、何もお金が取れないし、言葉も通じないので面倒になったのでしょう。
もう一度言いますが、何も違反はありません。ワイロも払いません。ワイロ稼ぎの言いがかりキャッチだったようですが、相手が外国人では、それも出来ませんよね。国の恥ですから（笑）。
妻があまりベトナム語で話さなかったのも功を奏したようです。

How to break-in （慣らし運転の方法）
BREAKING IN YOUR NEW HYUNDAI During the first 2,000KM (1,200Miles)-Gasoline Engine
No formal "break-in" procedure is required with your new HYUNDAI. However, you can contribute to the economical operation and durability of your HYUNDAI by observing the following recommendations during the first 2,000KM (1,200Miles).
1.Don't drive faster than 88km/h (55mph).
2.While driving, keep your engine speed (rpm, or revolutions per minute) between 2,000rpm and 4,000rpm.
3.Use moderate acceleration. Don't start, depress the accelerator pedal fully.
4.For the first 300km (200miles), try to avoid hard stops.
5.Don't lug the engine (in other words, don't drive so slowly in toohigh a gear that the engine "bucks": shift to aa lower gear.
6.Whether going fast or slow, vary your speed from time to time.

義理（ぎりーGIRI）

自分と何らかの社会的関係がある人、または恩を受けた人に対して返礼をする義務を言います。この義務を怠ると日本社会では信用を失います。
An obligation to return favors in certain social situations or to persons from whom one has received particular favors. Neglecting this obligation to reciprocate will often cause one to lose the trust of others in Japanese society.

今週の記事（3週連続31回目の採用）
今週は31回目の記事採用です。
I married a Vietnamese woman in 2004 and have been living peacefully with her – and a son. Before marriage, we had been going together for two years. During this term, many troubles arose because of cultural differences.
For example, in my country, people usually go drinking with colleagues, bosses or subordinates after working hours to talk about the many issues happening in the company. This can be a profitable communication method in Japan, but my wife couldn't understand it.
What did we do to understand each other? First, we learned the other's language and were able to scrutinise the true meanings of what was being said. In addition, I sometimes take my wife to go to Japan to experience life there.
I think discussions are the only way that to bridge the gap between mixed couples. They should explain things step by step. My wife managed to make sense of inexplicable things for me. Now I can understand most things that are happening around me in Viet Nam.

バスジャックと言う考え方はまだベトナムにはない!?
昨日は急用があり妻の実家へ。
最近の我が家のトレンド、市営バスでGO!
バスの楽しみの一つ、車内実演販売があります。画像は昨日の車内実演販売の様子。果物ナイフを売っていました。6人ほどが購入。ベトナムにはまだバスジャックと言う考え方がないようなので、刃物を売りつけても問題ナシです（笑）。
私もつい話しにつられて懐中電灯つきライターを1万ドン（50円）で購入。バスは楽しいですよ～！

フランス語も勉強することにしました。
前からあこがれていたフランス語の勉強も始めることにしました。
ベトナムの旧宗主国でもあるフランス、色々な理由があるのですが、表向きの理由としては、今でも購入することが可能な植民地時代のフランス語で書かれた書籍をいろいろ読んでみたいと言うことを挙げておきましょう。

自動車をいよいよ購入します！
在住１０年目にしてやっと自家用車を購入する機会が巡ってまいりました！
まぁ大した車ではありませんが・・・大韓民国、現代（HYUNDAI）自動車の、GETZという小型車です。
この車にした理由は下記の通り。
１．日本車を購入するに十分なお金がない！（ということにして妬みをかわすのが真の目的）
２．ぼろくそ言われている韓国車の中では飛びぬけて評判がいい！
３．レンタカーで実際にホーチミンを運転したことがある！
４．ホーチミンのカオスの中を走るに最適なサイズ！
こんな感じです。見た目も気に入っていて、ちょっと見、ゴルフのポロみたいに見えたりします。

奥様の自動車運転免許
一昨日、奥様の自動車運転免許が無事に発給されました。苦労の甲斐がありましたね。良かった良かった！
本日はペーパードライバー用の路上教習に出かけたそうです。「もっとスピード出して！」とか「ウィンカーのタイミングが遅い！」とか怒られながら教習を終えたそうです。少しは自信がついたかな？

But I also purchase a newspaper. Do you know why? Because internet access is very easy and useful, but we only see what we need to see. When I buy a newspaper or book, I see other things as well.
For 10 years, I've been using the internet in Viet Nam and I think that it has developed surprisingly, including its infrastructure, but I think the content of the internet is still poor.
My neighbours in Viet Nam prefer shopping on the internet and recommend I do so as well. Yes, I agree with them, it's easier and more convenient, but the internet can make people lazy. This is why I don't use the internet to shop.
I welcome the development of the internet in Viet Nam, but still don't trust it.

今週の採用記事（14週連続28回目）
In Japan, dietary supplements are popular among middle-aged and advanced age people. It is widely believed to be one of the keys to a longer life.
Usually, we can buy supplies in drug stores and supermarkets. Prices depend on consumers' demand. If consumers consider that price is high compared to the quality, no one buy the supplements, so traders are always sensitive to trend and fashion.
The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare strictly controls traders, making sure there are no false claims about their effect. The Vietnamese Government may find it beneficial to look at mechanisms in Japan for better control.

日本代表にボスが！
サッカー日本代表大健闘！昨晩は興奮してなかなか眠るに就く事が出来ませんでした。
ベトナムでは同じアジアからの参加国を応援しようと言う論調でマスコミが報じています。島国根性に凝り固まった我らの腐った根性を恥じたりします。が、サッカーは賭け事の対象であり、やっぱり弱小国と世界では見られているアジアの国々に賭ける人はベトナムでも少ないようです。したたかですね、ベトナム人。って、賭け事は禁止ですよ、ベトナムでは！ご飯を賭ける程度にしておきなさい。
日本代表チームに田中マルクス選手という方がいますよね。今のチームにはなかなかいない闘志
をむき出しにする人で結構気に入ってたりしますが、うちの会社のボスにそっくりです。うちの奥様もそういってました。

飛行機が嫌いなので日本には行きません。
今週末から新しいスタッフの男の子とボスが日本に出張に出かけます。新人研修のために。
ボスは新人と一緒に行きますか？と聞いてくれたのですが、「いいえ、飛行機が怖いので行きたくありません。」と返答。
酷い部下ですよね、ボスが行ってもいいと言って下さったのに断るなんて。しかも飛行機が怖いなんて、裏を返せば「ボスが乗る飛行機が落ちても構いません」といっているようなものではないですか！ボス、ごめんなさい。でも本当に飛行機が怖いんです・・・。
ボスは新人と一緒に行きますか？と聞いてくれたのですが、「いいえ、飛行機が怖いので行きたくありません。」と返答。

会社で作成されたベトナム語の文章は実は我が家で殆ど奥様にチェックされています。

最近息子は幼稚園で特定の子に殴られたり蹴られたり、物を取られたりしているようです。生傷も耐えません。
男の子ですから大いに結構、子供のけんかに口を出すような大ばか者でもありませんので傍観ですが、ちゃんと教育もしています。
「いいかい、息子よ。先に手を出すことはいけないことだけど、男の子なんだからやられたらやり返せよ。思いっきり鼻を殴れ、鼻血が出たら大概の人間は動きを止めるから。」とか、関節技を教えてみたり、投げ技を教えてみたり（笑）。
息子はそれでも無抵抗主義のようです。先生が怒るのが嫌だそうで。一応先生は先に手を出した子を厳しくしかっているようですが、喧嘩の場合は両成敗にして下さいとお願いもしてあります。
父と違い息子は専守防衛に徹しているようです。誰が彼に憲法第9条を授けたのでしょうか？

あれから10日あまり、特訓に特訓を重ね本日2回目の受験を迎えました。
始発のバスに乗り込み、試験場へ。試験場で朝の本番前練習。合格点である80点を越える点数との事。よしよし、緊張しないで！
本番、100点満点中95点で合格したとの事！おめでとう！
たかが運転免許と言うなかれ、殆どの人間が先に車を購入し、無免許で運転を路上で行い、教習も試験もまともな方法で受けようとしない中にあり、まったくの初心者から教習を段階的に受け、筆記試験は満点、技能試験も2回の受験で合格したことに意味がある！
本格的に教習が始まってから1ヵ月半での免許取得。これは最短の部類に入ると思います。やっぱりバカ正直に教習を受けたほうが早いと言うことの証明にもなりました。正直ものが勝利するのだ！
と言うことで今日は定時帰宅決定！祝勝会はお寿司ですな。→すき焼きに変更！

My wife has just passed a paper exam for graduation from driving school.
I am surprised at many things at the school. It is well equipped and has many well trained instructors. Those graduating should be highly skilled and have a good driving manner, but in fact many leave with a rough and rude attitude.
I have even heard that some hopeless car drivers can buy driving licences. This is incredible.
The Police Department must strengthen regulations to stop this practice.

昨日は弟の誕生日でした。
それに便乗して月末の自分の誕生日のプレゼントを奥様におねだり。
今年はベトナム製の電子辞書をプレゼントとして購入してもらいました。日本円で約2万8千円也。
英語、ベトナム語、日本語、フランス語、スペイン語、韓国語、中国語・・・970万語を搭載した優れもの。フォトアルバムやMP3ミュージックプレイヤー、カレンダーや時計機能、スケジュールなど、色々な機能がついた優れものです。高い買い物でしたので大事に使おうと思います。奥様、有難う御座います！

明日は試験日
明日は奥様の運転免許の試験日本番です。
朝の6時に自宅を出て、バスを乗り継ぎ試験場に向かうそうです。昨日のそのシュミレーションと、試験前のプレテストを受けてきたそうです。
7時半までに受験者は集合、先ず筆記試験を行い合格者のみ午後の技能試験に進むとのこと。合格すれば2週間後には免許が交付され、晴れて公道で自動車の運転が出来るようになります。
筆記試験に合格して技能で不合格でも、技能試験はあと2回チャンスがあるとの事。3回落ちると筆記試験からやり直しです。
いずれにせよ試験場は自宅から遠い場所にあり、また行くのには大きな労力を要するとの事なので、明日の試験一回で合格を目指します。
奥様の課題は坂道発進のみ。サイドブレーキを使わない坂道発進ですので（教習所で教えない）、大変だとは思いますが頑張ってもらいたいです。
明日私は年休取得済み。後方支援部隊として家事を担当します。

1千万を安いと言い切る日本人
かなりの自慢ですが、ベトナムで中級マンションと高級マンションを持っています。
で、日本人にその話をすると、「いくらですか？え、1千万円から買えるんですか？安いですね～」と言う人が結構います。
日本に比べて安いと言う話なんでしょうけど、現金で1千万円をポンと用意できる人はそんなにいないと思いますね。彼らは虚勢を張っていると思われます。
ちなみに私も現金で購入したわけではない。数年間のローンで購入したわけです。ベトナムの金持ちは違いますよ。現金でマンションも家も購入します。うらやましい限りです。

安全管理に関しての説明会
先日お話しました、園児送迎バスでの園児閉じ込め事故に関して、明日説明会が幼稚園で行われるようです。
聞くところによるとお父さん達の参加が多いと予想されるとか。そりゃそうだ、わが子が命の危機にさらされる可能性のある事故が起き、しかもかなり時間が経過してからの説明会。危機管理意識が園には一体あるのか、疑わしく思います。
私は参加しません。仕事があるし、こちらの要望に対して何のリアクションもない人たちと話し合いをしても時間の無駄です。今回は傍観します。子供を通わせている以上不安は大きいのですが・・・。
聞くところによるとお父さん達の参加が多いと予想されるとか。そりゃそうだ、わが子が命の危機にさらされる可能性のある事故が起き、しかもかなり時間が経過してからの説明会。危機管理意識が園には一体あるのか、疑わしく思います。

I have a three-year-old son who loves his toys, which I buy here.
I think the toy market in Viet Nam is very interesting because in Japan toys are aimed both at children and adults. We can't find "Toy's-like Toys".
However, there is a safety issue. Almost all the toys I have bought here were made in China, and they can be dangerous because they are not well finished.
In addition, I hear that the paint used can be toxic, especially with plastic toys.
When we buy toys for our son, we never buy plastic toys that have been painted. We are also careful about sharp edges.
The Vietnamese Government should strengthen quality control standards. I see quality control stickers on toys from China that I find suspect.
I do think that quality standards here are quite low. Imports should be rigorously tested.

In August, I will take my family to Phu Quoc Island for the first time. So far, we have been to beach resorts in Vung Tau, Phan Thiet, Nha Trang and Da Nang. Our favourite was Nha Trang.
Access from the airport to central Nha Trang and the beach can be a hard trip for people prone to car sickness. But the coastal environment offers more than other destinations. There are optional tours such as boat trips, fishing trips, scuba diving tours and marine activities.
And one of the biggest pluses in favour of Nha Trang is the pleasant manner of those working in local hotels, tourism offices, restaurants and shops.
At some resorts, people engaged in the industry are not accustomed to keeping a distance between themselves and tourists.
The Vietnamese Government should improve training and education for people in the tourism sector,especially for beach resort staff.
Another positive factor for beach resorts in Viet Nam is that there are no blatant sex services as in other Asian destinations. In other Southeast Asian countries, open-air strip-shows are depressing.

Many criminal acts have supposedly been committed in Japan by persons - not only the young - infected by violent and sexual video-games or on-line-games.
But I don't think so.
Violent and sexual games can spark a crime but I believe one reason for juvenile delinquency is lack of communication between the young and their elders.
I think it's important to regulate and control games that have a harmful influence but this is difficult to do when some adults are not worried about playing violent and sexual games in front of the young.
We have to consider how to create more time to communicate with our children.
When I was a schoolboy, I took part in sports club activities every day after school and had no time to think about sex or violence.
At home, I always communicated with my mother and told her about the day. Later, I did my homework and went to bed.
In Viet Nam, I don't have video games and don't use internet in my home. After 5pm, I return home as quickly as possible to spend time with my son.

I do think that quality standards here are quite low. Imports should be rigorously tested.

In August, I will take my family to Phu Quoc Island for the first time. So far, we have been to beach resorts in Vung Tau, Phan Thiet, Nha Trang and Da Nang. Our favourite was Nha Trang.
Access from the airport to central Nha Trang and the beach can be a hard trip for people prone to car sickness. But the coastal environment offers more than other destinations. There are optional tours such as boat trips, fishing trips, scuba diving tours and marine activities.
And one of the biggest pluses in favour of Nha Trang is the pleasant manner of those working in local hotels, tourism offices, restaurants and shops.
At some resorts, people engaged in the industry are not accustomed to keeping a distance between themselves and tourists.
The Vietnamese Government should improve training and education for people in the tourism sector,especially for beach resort staff.
Another positive factor for beach resorts in Viet Nam is that there are no blatant sex services as in other Asian destinations. In other Southeast Asian countries, open-air strip-shows are depressing.

Many criminal acts have supposedly been committed in Japan by persons - not only the young - infected by violent and sexual video-games or on-line-games.
But I don't think so.
Violent and sexual games can spark a crime but I believe one reason for juvenile delinquency is lack of communication between the young and their elders.
I think it's important to regulate and control games that have a harmful influence but this is difficult to do when some adults are not worried about playing violent and sexual games in front of the young.
We have to consider how to create more time to communicate with our children.
When I was a schoolboy, I took part in sports club activities every day after school and had no time to think about sex or violence.
At home, I always communicated with my mother and told her about the day. Later, I did my homework and went to bed.
In Viet Nam, I don't have video games and don't use internet in my home. After 5pm, I return home as quickly as possible to spend time with my son.

教習所
先週の日曜日に、妻の自動車運転免許教習に付き合いました。昨日卒業学科試験に合格し、いよいよ本番試験が6月の頭にあるそうで、あとは運転実技試験の練習をするだけなのですが、休日の補講に付き合った形です。
実に感動したのはベトナムにもきちんと教習所があり（あたりまえですよね）、コースも本番試験場と同じ設計のものになっていること。
しかしながらマナー教習は実施されておりませんで、コース内でもクラクションは鳴らすし割り込みは当たり前。また、何度もコース内で割り込みをされ、皮肉混じりに「教習所の段階から割り込みを教えるとはさすがですね」と言ってやりました。踏み切り箇所で窓を開けて音を聞くしぐさをしたら意味がわからなかったようですし、坂道発進はサイドブレーキも使いません。そもそも運行前の点検調整もなく、教官自らがサンダル履きでシートベルトもせず、これでは永久にベトナム人の運転マナーは向上しないと確信しました（笑）。
まぁアメリカなんかでもその程度と聞いていますし、マナーが良くても交通事故死の数は日本も多いですし、郷に入りては郷に従えと言うことなんでしょうね。

8週連続22回目の採用
連休が明け、今日から仕事再開です。
連休中の4月30日、記事がまた採用されましたがこの日は新聞休刊日。掲載は5月7日に延期という事で担当者からメールを頂きました。

魔法の油
ベトナムでよく見かけるもの。
頭が痛いときや肩がこったときなどに瓶に入った「緑色の油」を塗りこむのを良く見かけます。きつけ油のような、ハッカ臭のような、日本人があまり好まない臭いのする油なのですが、これがなかなかの優れもの。
乗り物酔いの時には鼻の入り口に塗り込んだり、肩こりのする箇所に塗り込んだり、二日酔いのときなどにもこめかみに塗り込んだり、臭いをかぐだけでも気分が戻りますし、切り傷にも良く効きます。
大変重宝していますが、日本の家族の前で使うとその臭いに文句が出てきてしまいます。
画像はニャチャンへの慰安旅行時に撮影したその油。ビーチでの画像ですが、意味も無くリラックスするために油の臭いをかいでいたところ、ベトナム人スタッフに見つかり、撮影をされてしまった瞬間です。

とある女性から会社のボスにメールが来たそうです。
その女性は以前うちの会社の購買マネージャーをしていました。日本語に堪能で、品質管理の仕事も出来、なかなかの女性でした。
入社直後の私を呼び出し、「うちの会社は日本語とベトナム語の会社ですからあなたの英語は絶対に認めません、私は英語が嫌いですから」と御丁寧に忠告してくれた素敵な女性です。
自己都合、日本での仕事が見つかったとのことで退職願を出しましたが、結局ビザの関係でその話はお流れに。嫌いであるはずの私に「助けてください」と泣きついてきたときにはあきれてものも言えませんでしたが、結局近所の工業団地に入居している日系企業の品質管理担当者として就職出来たと風のうわさに聞きました。
その女性が、「家から勤務場所が遠いので辞めたい、またうちの会社に職場復帰したいが募集はありませんか？」とボスに行ってきたそうです。
出戻りは今いる社員に対しても示しがつきません。それに募集はあることはありますが、国際マーケティングスタッフと言うことで、「英語が出来ない人」は不要です。
「工員として最初から出直すならOKですよ」と、到底飲むはずの無い条件で返事をして下さいとボスには伝えました。私って結構冷徹！？そりゃそうだ、英語が必要な職種しか募集してないのに、「英語が嫌い」と言い切った人は採用できませんので。あしからず。

特に男性社員は直接の部下でしたし、仕事も色々頑張ってもらったのでやや寂しい気もしますが、特に私主催の送別会などは開きません。
昨日の昼食時にベトナム人社員のみで会社そばの日本食レストランで送別会をやったようですが・・・。
中には「冷たいんですね」と言う人間もいるのですが、私のスタンスは「来る者拒まず、去るもの追わず」。別会社に今より高い給与で働くチャンスをつかんだのですから、追っても仕方が無い、快く何も言わずに送り出すのも愛情と言うことを分かって欲しいものです。
ちなみに彼には「二度と戻るな」と厳命。結構いるんですよね、うちの会社には出戻り社員って。プライドは無いんでしょうか？

7週連続21回目の採用記事
In Japan, many youngsters commit suicide because of schoolwork slumps and bullying in schools. Violence in schools in Japan is similar to the situation in Viet Nam.
However, compared with Vietnamese youngsters, Japanese youths have more places to escape, and more choices for their futures.
For example, if they fail to get good results in school, there are other ways to get ahead, such as to be a manual labourer, an artist, entertainer, professional sports player and more, according to their abilities. Of course, most parents hope their children will study hard and graduate from a well-known school and be employed at a well-known company, but there are so many choices in their lives that youths in Japan don't need to give up if they do poorly in school. What about in Viet Nam?
Most schools in Japan arrange for a school counsellor, giving kids an alternative to speaking to their parents about certain issues.
But sometimes bullying in schools happens where adults can't see it, such as on blogs or elsewhere on the internet. In Japan, there have been murders because of internet slander; I don't know if this has happened yet in Viet Nam, but it will pay to be careful in the future.
I strongly hope that the Vietnamese Government strengthens regulations on the media, which can influence children through violence and other abusive actions. As parents we must also think about our children's' futures.

先週の記事（6週連続20回目の採用）
先週は記念となる20回目の採用となりました。
これからしばらく投稿を続けて、量がまとまったらそれらを編集して本を出版しようと考えています。タイトルは「My Opinion」（仮題）。全記事、日本語・ベトナム語・英語表記にしようと思います。
今回は「ハノイを如何にして世界中でも有名な都市とするべきか？」といった感じのお話です。
Big cities in the world have their unique images, such as London, which is the city in fog, or Venice, which is the city built on water, and so on.
Ha Noi has many lakes, which induce a feeling of mystery. Some lakes have legends, such as the giant turtle.
The people and the Government should make an effort to promote these legends. In addition to the above, people should explain why Ha Noi is called "Ha Noi". A few foreigners I've heard don't even know that Ho Chi Minh City is named after Uncle Ho.
Streets, districts, cities and provinces in Viet Nam have many legends. But many foreigners don't know about them. The Vietnamese Government should encourage people, especially the younger generation, to learn about the history of the city.

PTAの2回目の会合に参加した妻からの話。
PTA役員に選ばれなかった保護者から、「PTA役員の子供は学費を割引されている！」とのクレームが幼稚園にあったそうです。
これがうわさの！？
日本人保護者らしいですが、「よほどに彼らはやることが無くて暇で、色々なことを考えちゃうんだろうね」との妻の弁。
そう、彼らは、いえ、奴らは本当に暇人なんですよ。
PTA役員に選ばれなかった保護者から、「PTA役員の子供は学費を割引されている！」とのクレームが幼稚園にあったそうです。
これがうわさの！？

慰安旅行
来週の木曜日の夜からニャチャンへ会社の慰安旅行で行きます。
夜行バスで次の日の朝6時ころニャチャンに到着するそうな。
フリータイムがほしいところですが、旅慣れていないベトナム人、全工程スケジュールどおりに動くようですが、あれじゃ皆疲れてしまうと思います。
今回は移動が大変ですし、行動スケジュールもタイト、ホテルもたいしたことなさそうなので、妻子は帯同させず。次の週の連休に家族でドンナイ省の自然公園に行くことにしました。
ニャチャン旅行は会社の総務の責任者でもあるのでいやいやながら行きますが、適当に片付けてしまおうと思ってます。
家族が行かないとなるとやる気が消滅です。

TOEIC試験の結果
４月５日に受験したTOEICの結果が今朝郵送されてきました。妻に開封してもらったところ、リスニング３２５点、リーディング３７５点、合計７００点でした。
日本時代も含めまったくの初経験、２ヶ月だけの受験勉強しかも独学ということを含みますと、自分のレベルを素のまま測れたと思いますし、そのくらいのレベルであろうなと言う納得はしています。
当初の目標は６００点でしたのでそれは上回りましたが、試験直前に受験勉強の手ごたえから変更した目標スコア８００点ははるかに下回りました。そしてさらに上のレベルの９００点台を目指すにはまだ２００点以上も開きがあることになります。道は険しい！
でも今回自分のレベルが分かったので、今後の勉強の励みにしたいと思います。この悔しさをバネに！！！

今週の採用記事（5週連続19回目）
I sometimes use herbal medicine. I know that there is one very famous area in HCM City where we can buy herbal medicine. It is very famous for Japanese tourists and is located near my wife's home, so I sometimes go there not to buy but to listen to the salespersons.
Various types of medicine are sold there and salespersons tell interesting stories about different medicine but I think half of the stories are made up.
We Japanese usually use herbal medicine as a supplemental method in case western medicine is not effective, but we are always concerned about their ingredients, effect, country of origin, and so on.
In Japan, medicine and drugs are strictly restricted by the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act and herbal medicine is also required to be clarified and analysed in detail. Persons who prescribe and sell herbal medicine must have a pharmacist's licence issued by the Ministry of Health.
I don't know the Vietnamese system well but I think that sales qualifications and networks are not clear compared to western medicines. The Government should maintain or improve the related law. I don't think many of the people who sell herbal medicine have been educated and have enough knowledge to prescribe the correct remedies.

通園4日目
息子の通園4日目、今日は少し慣れてきた様子だったようです。
今日はママがPTAの会合があるために一緒にバスに乗り登園。ゲートのところで幼稚園に入らないと駄々をこねたようですが、ベトナム人の副園長が付き添ってくれたようで、昨日までの3日間までのように大声で泣き叫んだり、嘔吐したりはしなかったようです。
そしてママも会合が終わり、今日は先にタクシーで帰ったようです。良くぞ突き放してくれました！そうしないといつまでも慣れませんからね。帰りのバスでも息子はおとなしかったようで、自宅マンションに到着すると、ベトナム人の先生に「先生ここじゃなくてもう少し先まで進まないと駐停車出来ないよ！」と言ったそうです。要するに、まだ日本人の先生方とはうまくコミュニケーションが取れないということらしい。そりゃそうだ、日本語は出来ますがパパ以外に普段日本人と接しないんだから。
ママのPTA会合も上手く行った様で、会計担当になったようです。
本日は、これにて一件落着。

あまりいないと思いますが参考までに。
ベトナムでのTOEIC受験について、あまり受験する日本人は多くないと思いますが、いくつか注意点を。
１．貴重品は絶対に持っていかない・・・試験会場に入る前に持ち物は全てロッカーに預けるのですが、ロッカーが壊れていてかなり不安になります。今回の受験前、私はロッカーの修理から始めました。なくしたくない物は絶対に持っていかない方が良いでしょう。事故はおきませんでしたが、起きる可能性は十分に考えられますし、事務局は絶対に責任を持ちません。
２．リスニングは雑音との闘いです・・・あろうことか今回の試験のリスニングテスト中に、隣のスーパーでご丁寧に「獅子舞」を実施。テストの途中で獅子舞は終わりましたが、それでも防音をしているはずの試験会場にバイクなどの音が入ってきます。私はそんなこともあろうかと雑音のある中でリスニングを受ける対策をしてきたので気になりませんでしたが、そうではない人は相応のご覚悟を。
３．試験管理スタッフ・・・替え玉受験などを防ぐためにかなり厳密にチェックを行い、態度もかなり横柄です。これは仕方がないにしても、外国人受験者がいるのに英語を話せるスタッフは少なく、また試験中に話しかけてくる人もいるので、これも相応の覚悟が必要です。アンケートやその他記入事項についてはベトナム語のみの説明ですが、英語で印刷された注意書きもありますので、着席したら先ずはその注意書きを真剣に読みましょう。国コードと言語コードがわかりませんので先に管理スタッフに聞いておくと良いでしょう。
４．時間の概念・・・試験開始時刻は8時からとされていましたので、交通渋滞も予想して7時半には会場入りしておきましたが、実際に試験が開始されたのは9時17分からでした。当日は余裕を持ってスケジューリングして下さい（試験の後に用事を入れないほうが良いです）。
５．その他・・・試験管理スタッフも不慣れなことが多いようですし、やはり外国人相手に説明をするとなると緊張するもの。こちらが心の余裕を持って不手際があっても許すことの出来る寛容さが必要です。一生懸命やってくれているわけですし、ちょっとしたことで怒らない方が良いと思います。試験の出来にも影響すると思いますし。

４．時間の概念・・・試験開始時刻は8時からとされていましたので、交通渋滞も予想して7時半には会場入りしておきましたが、実際に試験が開始されたのは9時17分からでした。当日は余裕を持ってスケジューリングして下さい（試験の後に用事を入れないほうが良いです）。
５．その他・・・試験管理スタッフも不慣れなことが多いようですし、やはり外国人相手に説明をするとなると緊張するもの。こちらが心の余裕を持って不手際があっても許すことの出来る寛容さが必要です。一生懸命やってくれているわけですし、ちょっとしたことで怒らない方が良いと思います。試験の出来にも影響すると思いますし。
以上、今回受験をして分かったことを列記しました。
中国で邦人が死刑に処された件について
賛否両論あるようですが、中国という国のルールを知りながらそれを破り、死刑に値する大罪を犯したのですから、仕方のないことと私は思います。
麻薬を規定量以上所持しただけでも死刑という国は他にもあると思いますが、私は間違っていないと思います。

受験会場に30分前に到着しましたが、受験者の殆どは1990年代生まれ。私のように70年代は他にいませんでした。
試験開始は予定より1時間遅れ。かなり厳しく入室時のチェックが行われます。本人なのかどうか、不正を防ぐための持ち物検査などにかなりの時間がかかります。
全ての説明がベトナム語で行われるため、全部は理解できませんでしたが、事前にネットなどで調べていたので、アンケートの記入方法などは全て分かりました。隣に通訳の人が付いて英語で説明をしてくれましたので心情的にも安心して受験をすることが出来ます。
ところで、試験のリスニング時間に、近所で獅子舞をやっていたようで、かなり気になりましたが、全神経を集中させ、何とかリスニングを乗り切りました。残りの時間でリーディングに臨みましたが、制限時間一杯。全問題を解き終えたと同時に制限時間終了。ギリギリでした・・・冷や汗。

結局投稿、採用（4週連続18回目）
締め切り寸前30分前に駆け込み投稿。採用されました。
In my country, the Environmental Protection Tax is still under discussion but some local governments have already introduced it as additional tax to VAT, gasoline-light oil tax, fossil fuels tax, etc.
I think only introducing this tax is not a practical and feasible way to protect the environment. An awareness campaign is more important. The people in my country also unlawfully dump industrial waste or discharge polluted waste water from factories, even though they pay this kind of tax.
We have many experiences of results which have been caused by destruction of environment, so everyone should realise how important it is to protect the environment.

明日は息子の入園式なのですが、息子本人が体調不良。熱があり、喉が腫れてしまい声が出ない状態です。

今週の記事（3週連続17回目）
I sometimes drive a motor vehicle in HCM City and find that some "country people" frequently ignore traffic regulations (I can recognize them by number plate).
Near my workplace, some trucks go through the Industrial Park to avoid paying the toll and frequently cause accidents, so the management company of the IP may decide that all the trucks going through the park must be registered in advance.
In Viet Nam, roads don't have enough space for all vehicles so this kind of plan could be effective especially for Ha Noi.
In fact, I think this kind of plan could ease traffic congestion. Tokyo was in a state of chaos, when it was full of motorbikes, trams, buses, trucks and so on but they were cleared before the Olympic Games in 1964. I think the Government needs a plan and strong will, targets and an explanation to people to get them to understand why this is being done.

新聞スタンド閉鎖につき
毎朝英字新聞を購入していた新聞スタンド、マンションの中にあり非常に便利でしたが、旧正月後も再開はしませんでした。
店主が病気で復帰の見込み無しとの事で、惜しまれつつ閉鎖したようです。
そこで昨日から新聞社に依頼して、自宅に配達をしてもらうことにしました。これでまた毎日のニュースのチェックが出来るようになりました。
それにしても新聞スタンドの店主、元気になってくれると良いと思います。肺の病気だとか・・・。
慰安旅行
今年は4月に3連休1回と4連休1回があります。
3連休を利用して慰安旅行に行くことにしました。
行き先はニャチャン。ビーチリゾートのある場所です。2006年の正月に妻と訪れた場所でもあり、今回は子供も連れて行きたいので帯同させようかと思っているのですが、こちら出発が深夜、次の日の朝についてその日と次の日を目一杯遊んで、帰りも深夜便のバスで帰ってくる予定。子供連れだとちょっときつい気もしますので、別行動も考えられますが、総務人事の責任者としては引率も必要となり、妻子には別のバスか飛行機、もしくは鉄道で来てもらうか我慢して深夜バスに乗ってもらうしかなさそうです。
いずれにしても楽しみ〜。
カスタマーサービス？笑わせんなよ！
OMEGAの時計修理依頼をしたのが1月14日。既に2ヶ月が経過しましたが、何の連絡もなかったので、一昨日の日曜日にサービスセンターに出かけました。
なぜ2ヶ月も途中経過の報告がないのか？10回以上メールしているのになぜ誰も返事をしないのか？OMEGAの看板背負って商売をしている以上はこんなカスタマーサービスでよいのか？
この3点を怒声交じりで力説しました。
結果、全然通じていないようです（笑）。この国でカスタマーサービス、カスタマーサティスファクションを求めるのは1世紀以上先の話ですね。
改めてメールもして見解を聞かせて欲しい旨伝えたら、慌てて電話が掛かってきました。「修理は明日の夜完了します。御代は頂きませんのでよろしくお願いします」とのこと。ね、忘れてたんですよ、修理するのを。いくらスイスから部品を取り寄せって言ったって2ヶ月は掛かりません。素直に「ごめんなさい、忘れていました」って言えば許してあげるのに、言い訳するから許せないし、かわいくない。これはベトナム人に限りません、日本以外の外国では普通のことです。全然過失を認めようとしない。
私が付き合った中では比較的韓国人が日本人に使い感覚ですね。やはりお隣ですから。平素私が嫌っている韓国人を擁護するくらいですから、他の国はもっと酷いということで納得してください。

2週連続16回目の記事採用
先週の投稿が採用されました（2週連続16回目）。
金曜日に急遽バンコクに出張しましたが、飛行機内で配られている新聞で記事採用を確認しました。ちょっと嬉しかったり。記事内容は下記の通りです。
As I work for a company which produces fire fighting equipment such as fire extinguishers, ladders and hatches, I felt very upset when I heard the sad news.
In my country, detached houses must have smoke and heat detectors according to construction law, and apartments must have fire extinguishers.
In addition, apartments usually have fire escape ladders and hatches installed on their verandas. I'm not sure whether these would be effective once smoke inhalation occurs but at least this equipment is mandatory based on fire fighting and construction laws.
From my apartment, I often see people disposing of flammable substances via their own waste pipes but no-one warns them about it or takes any notice. Sometimes I try and warn the person myself about disposing of substances such as cigarettes and make a notice by myself.
I see some fire fighting equipment such as fire hydrants and extinguishers around, but I'm not sure if they work because I haven't seen them in action.
Security guards at my apartment check the equipment regularly to ensure it's in working order. However, there aren't any measures in place to help residents escape from balconies when a fire breaks out, so I have prepared a very long rope ladder, just in case.

東電OL殺人事件
97年の3月に起きた事件。
被害者の勤務する会社名が事件名についていることからも分かるように、被害者のプライバシーがマスコミによって徹底的に暴かれ、あまりの酷さに被害者の母親からマスコミ各社に自粛するように手紙が出たほど。
冤罪事件の可能性もあり、犯人とされるネパール人を支援する団体もあるようですが、個人的な意見としては、彼の素行にも多少の問題があり、裁判官の印象も悪くなってしまったような気もします（被害者の女性を買春していたり、その事実を隠していたり）。もちろん、判決自体に不可解な点も多く、もう一度見直す余地のある事件だとも思うのですが、そのような動きがないこともちょっと不思議な感じがします。
事件自体に直接関わりはありませんが、被害者の女性と思われる女性に、ハチ公前で大学の友人とともに声を掛けられたことがあるので、事件が発覚、マスコミが彼女のプライバシーを興味本位で暴いていた時には、ものすごく嫌な気持ちになったものです。「心の闇」という言葉で彼女の言動が片付けられてしまっているようですが、真相は一体どこにあるのでしょうか・・・。

2週ぶり15回目の採用
今週は2週ぶりに記事が採用されました。が、元記事の大部分がカットされています。ちょっと不満。
I enjoy the bus system because I understand some Vietnamese and my Vietnamese wife explains how it works in my own language, Japanese.
But sometimes feel stress. For example, the driving of a few drivers is very rough and they are sometimes rude while bus floors are dirty and no information about the route is provided. Improvement would encourage more people to take the bus, including my family members.
飛行機が嫌いな理由
海外に住んでいるのに、メインの移動手段である飛行機が大嫌いです。
原因となっているのは、25年前に発生した日本航空123便墜落事故です。
あの飛行機には東京-大阪間を移動する多くのビジネスマンも搭乗しており、私の父も事故前にあの路線を利用したことがあり、日本航空123便のチケットの半券が我が家にあったことを今でも思い出します。遺族となられた方々には大変失礼な言い方ですが、あの時私の父もあの飛行機に搭乗し、事故後に写真週刊誌などに掲載されたような無残な遺体になっていたかもしれない・・・。そのことが今でも私を戦慄させるのです。
独身の頃は、飛行機で死ぬときは一瞬なんだろうななどと気楽に構えていましたが、結婚して子供も出来るとどうしても弱気になってしまうものなのか、妻子を残して死にたくない、もしくは（同乗している時には）飛行機なんかで全滅したくないと思うようになってしまいました。
でも仕方がないんですよね、日本に戻るのに、鉄道で帰るわけにも行きませんし（物理的には可能だが、朝鮮半島からの移動はどうしても飛行機か船になるし、大変時間がかかる）。

TOEIC試験日近し！
TOEIC試験の本番の日が4月5日。近づいてまいりました。
模擬試験問題に当たる時間を多くとるようになって来ました。リスニング、普通で7割程度、調子がよければ8割から9割。リーディングは普通で9割、調子がよければ9割5部から10割くらいを取れるようになってきています。とにかくリスニングにかなりの神経を使うので、リーディングで時間が足りなくなることがしばしばあり、この辺の時間配分の練習をもう少し重ねて行かねばなりません。
初回目標スコアは控えめに600点台としてありましたが、800点台に変更します！このままの調子を維持し、本番には体調万全で臨みたいと思います。性格上、あんまり緊張はしないと思いますけどね。

税関長が変わると！？
会社の生産管理スタッフが悲鳴を上げているようです。
会社のある工業団地内の税関の税関長が新しい人になり、それに伴いルール変更があるようです。
日本にいるときに税関と接する機会はありませんでしたので日本の事情は分かりませんが、こういうルールって統一されているものであり、担当者によってルールが代わるってことはないと思うんですよね〜。ベトナムらしいといえばベトナムらしいのですが、その反面、日本の役人さんのように「規則です！」の一点張りでないところにも、外国企業にとってはありがたいこともあるんですよね。

ホイアン概要
チャンパ王国時代からの古い港町で、16世紀にチャンパは南に後退し、フエに広南阮氏政権が樹立されるとその外港となった。ホイアンの名称はその頃に成立したと思われる。
16世紀末以降、ポルトガル人、オランダ人、中国人、日本人が来航し国際貿易港として繁栄した。1601年には広南阮氏は徳川家康に書簡を送って正式な国交を求め、江戸幕府との取り引きが急速に拡大した。約30年間にわたる朱印船貿易のうち、広南には71隻が入港した。ホイアンには大規模な日本人街や中国人街が形成され、1623年にはオランダ東インド会社の商館も設けられるなど繁栄をみせたが、間もなく江戸幕府の鎖国により日本人の往来が途絶え、オランダの商館も1639年に閉鎖された。
17世紀後半、清朝と鄭氏台湾との対立から遷界令が出されたことは、さらにこの地域の交易を停滞させ、一時期の繁栄は失われていった。1770年代には西山（タイソン）党の乱によって町は完全に破壊されたが、やがて再建され、19世紀まで繁栄した。しかし、ホイアンと海を結ぶトゥボン川に土砂が堆積して浅くなり、港の繁栄はダナンに移った。一方で、街並みは残され、ベトナム戦争時代に破壊されることもなく、現在に至るまで当時の繁栄ぶりを今に伝えている。

伊勢うどんが起源！？
旧正月の旅行中、ユネスコの世界遺産にも指定されているホイアンを訪れました。１７世紀に日本人街があった場所です。
そこの名物料理、カウラウですが、往時の日本人が伊勢うどんを起源として作ったものという話しもあります。伊勢うどんを食したことがないので味の比較は出来ませんでしたがなかなかの味です。添付画像は伊勢うどんとカウラウの比較画像です。
葛西紀明を知るポーランド人
バンクーバー五輪が行われていますが、ベトナムでは話題に上ることは少ないです。冬季スポーツ種目に無縁な国なので・・・。
同じマンションにポーランド人が住んでいて、旧正月中に2回ほどお酒を一緒に飲みました。彼も私同様ベトナム人の女性と結婚していて２児をもうけています。
話をしている中で、話題はバンクーバー五輪へとうつったのですが、日本が最近不調であること、韓国や中国が実績を伸ばしつつあることを彼は話し、そして欧州ではスキージャンプの葛西紀明選手が大変有名な選手であることを話していました。逆に日本では五輪のときにくらいしか話題にならない選手。この辺にも冬季五輪でも韓国や中国に負けてしまう原因があるのかもしれません。

旧正月があけました。
長い旧正月休暇も昨日で終わり、今日から仕事始めです。ベトナム暦でも新年が明けました。
旧正月期間中は初めての家族旅行を実施。2泊3日でダナンとホイアンに行って来ました。例年になく天気がよく、海で泳いだりすることも出来ましたし、念願であった世界遺産の街、ホイアンの見学も出来ました。3歳の息子も初めて国内を飛行機で移動することを経験。多少の疲れを残したようですが、家族全員無事に戻ってきました。

TOEFL試験とTOEIC試験に対するベトナム人の考え方
TOEIC試験を受験することに決めたのですが、周囲のベトナム人からは「TOEFLの方が格が上だから、TOEFLを受験しなさい」という声が聞こえてきます。
2つの試験の目的が違うことを、ベトナム人は理解出来ていないように思える発言です。
ベトナムの場合、語学に秀でる者が多く、高校を卒業後に海外に留学に出かける人間や、在ベトナムの海外の大学に進学する人間も多いようですが、私に言わせれば、彼らは英語が出来るだけであって、優秀な人間ではありません。むしろベトナムで大学まで出て、そのあとに海外に留学する人間のほうがまだマシ。言葉が出来ると便利は便利ですが、それだけで仕事が出来るとは限りませんよね（これは私自身にも言えることですが）。それと親のコンプレックスを解消するために何が何でも英語を学ばせると言う姿勢もどうかなと思います。母国語もまともに話せない人間、母国のことを外国人に話すことが出来ない人間が英語だけ学ぶのも・・・。
雑音に惑わされず、TOEICの勉強は継続していきます。それから自分の子供はベトナムもしくは日本の大学をまずは卒業させるつもりです。
ベトナムの大学生はなかなか学力は高いようですが、その後はまったく伸びないことを追記しておきます。

ヒールがいなきゃ面白くない！
横綱・朝青龍の引退は非常に残念です。
ベトナム人の妻は相撲が大好き。ヒールがいなくちゃライバル横綱の白鵬だってやる気が出ないんではないかと心配しているようです。大相撲観戦は「東京六大学野球観戦」と並び、一時帰国の楽しみでもあります。
ややこしいな、大阪便は！
ホーチミンから大阪に飛ぶフライトの離陸時間は、午前1時に設定されています。そのため、予約を取るときによく確認しないと、空港に着いたらもうその飛行機は飛んでいるという事態も起きないとはいえません。
12日の夜に工場長が一時帰国予定ですが、これは12日の夜22時頃に空港に向かい、あけて13日1時に飛行機が飛ぶという意味です。そのつもりでスタッフにチケットの確保を依頼しておきましたが、やはり勘違いが生じ、11日の夜に空港に向かい、あけて12日の1時に飛ぶ飛行機を予約していたようです。事なきを得、予約の変更が出来たようですが、大阪便は非常にややこしい！東京便のようにその日の内に離陸して、次の日の朝に東京に到着する時間にして欲しいです。
旧正月まであと5日
旧正月元旦（2月14日）まであと5日。今年はバレンタインデーと会社の創立記念日、旧正月元旦の3つが重なります。
バレンタインデーと言えば、日本では女の子→男の子にチョコレートとかプレゼントを・・・ですが、ベトナムは逆。男の子→女の子になります。街中で花を持った男の子を見かける日ですね。その他にも国際婦人デー、ベトナム婦人の日など、女性がお祝いされる日がベトナムには多いようです。今年は旧正月元旦と重なるので、あまり盛大ではないのかな？
旧正月が間近に迫り、田舎に帰る工員さんなども出始め、ちょっと気分的に高揚した感じでしょうか。この期間を利用して帰国する日本人だけは蚊帳の外。私はもちろんベトナムにいますので気分が高揚しております。そろそろ旅行の準備も始めないと。

雪のないベトナムでは冬季五輪はまったくと言っていいほど話題に上りません。今回の冬季五輪も・・・です。
日本勢、前回の不調を取り消すべく頑張って欲しいですね。特に6大会連続で出場される葛西選手（ジャンプ競技）に頑張って欲しいです。

私も男三兄弟でして（しかも長男）、あの兄弟はすごいなあと思います。こうなってくると三男も頑張って欲しいですが、お父様はちょっとビジュアル的にも露出を控えられたほうがよろしいかと（笑）。
ちなみにベトナムではボクシングの話題はあまり語られません。

今週の記事（１１週連続１３回目）
今週は「タバコ」についての意見です。
As a light smoker, I think that smoking scenes don't promote the habit of smoking. It depends on each person's situation.
Tobacco is a luxury good and indispensable for some kind of films such as action films, war films and so on.
I think it must involve the social responsibility of film-makers to enlighten smokers regarding the harmful influence of smoking to non-smokers, especially for babies and pregnant women. That means film-makers should not only prohibit smoking but also should enlighten smokers where to smoke. In my opinion, Vietnamese smokers don't follow the rule in public. They smoke everywhere, all the time... It's a big problem not only for non-smokers but also smokers.
The present policy of Viet Nam is suitable one. How about increasing the price of tobacco such as in the US, Singapore, Japan? In Japan, the number of smokers has decreased because of the price of tobacco and the decrease in the number of places where people can smoke in public. How about adding terrible photos of lung cancer, pharyngeal cancer caused by smoking on the package such as in Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia? I think that may decrease the number of smokers. — VNS

マスコミはいい加減なことを書くな！
「中居が4大会連続で五輪司会に」とあれば（ヤフーニュース）、五輪の開会式の司会と思う人もいると思うんですよね〜。スマップの中居さんのことですけど、4大会連続で五輪の特番のメインキャスターになったらしい。
中居さんに責任はないけど、マスコミはいい加減なことを書くな！今日はなぜか怒りがこみ上げてきて止まらない・・・。
ほうれんそうって何ですか？
報告・連絡・相談・・・わが社では皆無です（笑→笑うしかない）。
口酸っぱく上のものから下のものに徹底するように言っていますが、まったく改善の兆しがありません。切羽詰ったときの連絡のみはされるようになりましたが・・・。
結構な数のメールを1日に送信したりしますが、帰ってくるのは2パーセントくらい、いや、もっと低い確率です。わが社はネットもまったく仕事に活用されておらず、専ら社員の遊び用になっているようなので、思い切ってなくしちゃっても良いと思います。頭にきますよね、長いメールを書いても返事もないし、言質を取るためにメールしてるのに、口頭で「ササっと」返答されたら。まぁいいですけど・・・。

東京は雪
東京で積雪があったそうな。
ホーチミンでは雪などありえないですからね〜。多少の雪で交通機関が麻痺する東京が懐かしかったりして。
私は親子三代に渡る江戸っ子ですが、こちらには江戸っ子はあまり多くないようです。東京に住んでいたことがあると言う人は結構多いのですが。江戸っ子の会を結成したいところですが、会員数は限定されるものと思われます。関東人の会、いえ東日本人の会としたほうが良さそう。
ところでこちらに在住する人は関西の人が多いようです。九州も多いかも。で、うちの会社にも約1名おりますが、関東人、とりわけ東京人にただならぬ敵意を持つ人が時々います。大阪人を自称していますが、彼らは本当は大阪人ではないですよね？生粋の大阪人は大阪に愛情があるので、他の都道府県など眼中になく、悪口も言わないと言うのが東京生まれながら、タイガースファンでもあり、大阪も結構気に入っている私の考え方です。
どことは言いませんが地方都市から東京を目指して故郷を出たが、夢かなわず大阪どまりという人間が、東京にただならぬ敵意を持っているようで、東京の悪口を言うようです。みっともないからやめれ（笑）。鬱陶しいんだよお前（ら）！

本当に良くあたる今年の運勢
嘘だと思う人はそう思って聞いて下さい。
毎年旧正月の前後に、今年の運勢というものが販売されます。とはいってもこのような占いの類などは大っぴらに販売できないらしいので、市場やお寺のそばなどでひっそりと売られています。で、これが良くあたる良くあたる。今までにも、「結婚・出産・転職・家の購入」と人生の節目節目を月に至るまで正確に言い当てて来ました。もう一度言いますが信じない人はこの話はこの時点でもう聞かなくていいですよ（笑）。
で、肝心の今年の運勢ですが、4月と1月に大金を手にするらしいです。そりゃ楽しみです。それから勉強している事柄でかなりの好成績、好結果が出るとの事。これはTOEICのこと？家をもう１軒買うことになるそうです。これはもう既に起きた出来事。もう１名子供を授かるようです。これもまたうれしい出来事。そして今年で私の今後の人生はほぼ決まったようです。「老後はかなり安定した生活を送ることが出来る」とのこと。そのために今年１年頑張ることと、「自ら家庭を壊すような行いをしないこと！」とのことです（笑）。
当然と言えば当然ですよね。浮気をしたりしないこと！って意味でしょうか。

Rock-Paper-Scissors! (Stone, Scissors, Paper, Shoot!)
ジャンケンの話。グーチョキパーを英語で言うと掲題のようになるらしいのですが、ベトナムでも同じような感じらしいのです。ただし、グーが「ハンマー」、チョキは「はさみ」、パーは「袋」とのこと。諸説ありますが、調べてみると面白いかもしれません。
残留旧日本軍関係者
ベトナムで従事した2つ目の職場には残留旧日本軍関係者の方が2名いらっしゃいました。
お1人目は、山口県の旧制中学を卒業後に平壌で郵政関係の官吏をされていた方で、平壌で召集を受け北部仏印に進駐。敗戦後もそのまま当地に留まり、何回か国籍を変えながら、サイゴン陥落まで見届けた方です。
お2人目は、満鉄のフランス語学院でフランス語を学ばれ、仏印進駐の日本軍にフランス語通訳の軍籍として帯同された方。特務機関で働き、敗戦後は日系の商社勤務として当地に留まった方です。
お2人とも既に鬼籍に入られましたが、敗戦国が語る事を許されない歴史の真実を知る貴重な方々でした。生前に色々なお話をお伺いしておりましたので、いずれは私もお2人のお話を書籍にしたいと考えています。お2人には結婚式に来て頂いたり、ご祝儀を頂いたり、忘れることの出来ない思い出の人物です。
今週の採用記事（10週連続12回目＝超暇人）
今週のお題は「ベトナムの医療について」です。
I have had a health check many times in Viet Nam. Usually foreigners don’t believe in the skill of local doctors, but I think some doctors here are more experienced than their overseas counterparts, such as surgeons, obstetricians and gynaecologists.
In fact, this has probably got a lot to do with the fact that they have much more clinical experience.
However, as you indicated, many don’t have enough English skills to explain a patient’s condition or how medicines will affect them.
I have a son and stress out whenever I have to take him to a paediatrician. The doctors can treat him, but can’t explain what made him sick. For example, they might say it’s because of a virus, but can’t explain what kind.
Drugs are also problem. Almost all drugs are imported from western countries and many seem too strong for Asians. Pharmacists don’t explain about their effectiveness and side-effects, so people find out for themselves.
In Viet Nam, do you have state exams for doctors and pharmacists after they graduate. In Japan, all medical and pharmacy students must pass a state-exam before practising.

史上初の嫁がうるさい結婚式inベトナム
この間の日曜日に、事務所の女性スタッフの結婚式にお邪魔させて頂きました。
通例、ベトナム人女性は結婚式の間、普段は明るく良く話す人でも慎ましくおとなしくしているものですが、この女性は普段と変わらず結婚式の間中もしゃべりっぱなし。新郎も押され気味でした（笑）。
まぁ何はともあれ、結婚できた喜びをかみしめて、お幸せにって感じです。
参列者はみな、「あんな下品な新婦は見たことがない」と言ってました。私じゃありませんよ、言ったのは。

ヤモリとイモリの区別が付かない日本人
身の回りにヤモリとイモリの区別が付かない日本人が3人ほどいます。驚くべきことに・・・。
ヤモリは爬虫類、イモリは両生類です。図鑑で調べて下さい（例外もあります）。
そんなことはどうでも良いのですが、ヤモリは良く見ることはあっても、まだベトナムでイモリを見たことがありません。ベトナムイボイモリと言う体長20センチほどのイモリが北部の渓流などにいるようですが・・・。
おじいちゃん
息子のおじいちゃんはベトナム語では内祖父と外祖父という言われ方をします。父方が内祖父、母方が外祖父。おばあちゃんも内祖母・外祖母という言われ方をします。父方が「内」で母方が「外」とは旧態依然とした考え方だと思いますが、古きよき時代の名残と考えればあまり気にはなりません。
おじいちゃんは共に定年退職をして隠居生活を始めていますが、内祖父、つまり私の父はつい最近定年を迎えたた、まだ何をするのか定まっていないような節があります。大型バイクに乗ることが趣味ではあるのですが、さすがに年齢的にきつくなってきたようです。
以前は政治的なことなどにまったく関心がなかったようなのですが、最近はすることがないためか、全共闘世代にありがちな「定年後に右傾化」の兆候が現れているようです。右よりの政治集会に参加することもしばしばとか。生来右翼の私としては、新右翼のおじいちゃんを簡単に受け入れるわけにも行かず、またその付け焼刃的な知識での論争にはまだまだ負けませんが、その思想的転向には目を見張るものがあります。
新保守派の結党集会にも参加するようで、今後のじいちゃんの動向にも注目です。
あいつが嫌いです・・・。
我が家では、妻が大のヤモリ嫌いです。
ヤモリが多い家のほうがお金持ちとされているベトナムでは、珍しいかもしれません。ヤモリが出没すると「旦那SWAT＝私」が出動する騒ぎです。
ゴキブリ、これは夫婦で問題なし。哀れなゴキブリは、姿を現したその刹那、虐殺される運命にあります。
蛇などの爬虫類、これも問題なし。但しベトナムの蛇の殆どが毒蛇なので、仮に出現した場合にはそれなりの武装で対処。
ねずみ、これも問題なし。触りたくないので（病気を持っていることが多いので）、いたら追い払います。
ここまで、家の中でも遭遇する可能性のある害虫、害獣などを列挙しましたが、殆ど私の中では問題のない連中なのです。
ところが！大の苦手とする私から見ると害虫がこの世には存在します・・・。
それは、「カマキリ」。あいつを見ただけで背筋がゾッと寒くなります。子供の頃にセミを捕食するカマキリと目があったことがトラウマになっており、カマキリだけはどうも苦手です。触ることはおろか、近づくのも遠慮したい存在。
そんな事はつゆ知らず、ベランダに飛来したカマキリと息子が仲良く遊んでいたりします。夫婦喧嘩の翌朝に、カマキリの死体がベランダに放置されていたりします。これは何か意味があるのでしょうか？
携帯ゲーム機
我が家には音響機器、それからゲーム機の類が一切ありません。夫婦共に興味がないといったらそれまでですが、使う時間がないので今まで購入を考えたこともありませんでした。
しかしながらここに来てTOEICの勉強を始めたわけですが、確かに書籍を用いての勉強も良いのですが、たまには息抜き程度に任天堂DSiなどを用いて勉強するのも良いのではないかと思うようになりました。
となると、その購入費用を捻出しなければいけませんが、一番手っ取り早いのは、パチプロ級の腕前を持つ日本のおばあちゃんに景品として取って貰い、安く購入させてもらう方法。ははは・・・。
まだ購入するとは決まっていませんが、かなり興味が出てきました。自分でも珍しいと思います・・・。

初受験日は4月5日に決定！
TOEICテストの初受験日は4月5日に決定しました。
昨日、受験申し込みに出かけましたが、事務局はどう見ても私より若い人たちの熱気であふれておりました。受験予定者のリストには1名のみ日本人（女性）の名前も。
当初一番早い受験日は3月27日と言うことでしたが、受験者が多いためこの日は取れず4月5日に。少しずれましたがその分勉強できる時間は延びたということで頑張ろうと思います。受験料35ドルを無駄にしないように・・・。
それにしても・・・TOEIC事務局の係の人は殆ど英語が話せないみたいです。こちらのつたないベトナム語で対応したのですが、TOEIC以前にベトナム語とも格闘しないといけないかも・・・。

Regarding Henry
ケーブルテレビで偶然やっていた映画作品。1991年の作で「ハリソン・フォード主演」作品。
何だかとてもいい映画でした。「家族って何なの？」と考えさせられるような。日本での邦題は「心の旅」。
ハリソン・フォードもああいう演技が出来るんですね〜。

ipodのイヤホン購入
朝からホーチミンに出かけた購買課員に頼んで、ipodのイヤホンを買ってきてもらいました。付属品のイヤホンが壊れ、妻のCDウォークマンに付属するイヤホンを使っていましたが、これで妻に返すことも出来ます。付属品なので非常にシンプルなイヤホンですが、このシンプルさが結構好きです。
工場のある工業団地内に入居しているとある日系企業ではこのipodのイヤホンを製造しているとか。一度現場を見てみたいぃ〜。
今週の採用記事（９週連続１１回目＝暇人）
I think Tet is the most important event of the year in Viet Nam, so Tet bonuses should also be considered an important issue for enterprises. I have already made a final decision on the size of the Tet bonus this year and explained to all employees, as I'm the human resources manager in our company, that it's not important how much they receive. However, it is a reward for their effort. They all understand that.
In our company, at least a one-month bonus is guaranteed and individual assessment is considered on top of that. The average bonus is 1.3 to 1.4 times the monthly salary. I have refused to pay an additional individual assessment this Tet because business has not improved as we expected.
The gap between the highest and lowest bonuses is incredible and quite unfair, I think. It's difficult to keep employees motivated, especially as foreign enterprises pay higher bonus levels. They should consider the effect this has on other enterprises.
The Tet bonus doesn't affect my performance. However, I think the bonus should be as high as possible to keep employees motivated.

結婚式と披露宴の様子は業者に依頼して写真でも残します。また、式場入り口に出しておく二人のパネル写真もセットになっています。事前に衣装を着てアルバムまで作るのが一般的。通説としては台湾人や香港人の習慣がベトナムにも伝播したとか。
撮影は一日がかりです。俳優気分でございますが、ロケ撮影もあるので大変恥ずかしい。私もやりましたが、こういうときは女性のほうが堂々としていますね。
写真だけでなく、ビデオ、今はDVDですね、これも作成します。もう、映画仕立てのものまであり、結婚する前は、新婚家庭に招かれては見せられたもので、「誰がこんなもの見たいのか？」と思っていましたが、自分も作ることになり、やはり新婚家庭への訪問者で式に来てくださった方々にはお見せしました。
結婚から5年を経た今でも、時々出してきては夫婦のみで鑑賞しています。やっぱり恥ずかしい。

どこの市場で買いました？
ヴィトンに引き続き、偽ブランド時計のお話。
現在修理中のOMEGAスピードマスター。この時計もよくコピー製品を見かけます。
本物の時計をしていても、こちらの方々にはよく次のような質問をされます。「いい時計ですね、どこの市場で買いました？いくらで買いました？」ははは・・・市場じゃないんだけどね。でもそこでムッとするようではまだまだ甘いですよ〜。「近所の市場です、17万（ドン）です。」と答えます。
確かに値段は17万（円）でしたし、嘘は言ってません。近所の市場は嘘ですが、市場でコピー製品を売っているのは事実です。
ベトナムでは人の持っている物の値段を聞くことは失礼ではありません。「定価」という概念が最近育ってきたようですが、基本的には値段は交渉次第という世界がまだありますので、物の値段に関する勉強には非常に熱心。「これいくら？」は頻繁に聞く言葉です。
それから人の年齢を初対面で聞くことも頻繁です。次回会ったとき以降、その人に対する二人称が自分との関係により変化しますので最初に年齢を聞いて自分との年齢の関係を確認しているわけです。
このようにわれわれからすると理解できないことも必ず理由があるはずなのです。そのことに気付くまで私は5年かかりましたが（笑）、早く気が付けばこちらでの生活も楽しめるようになります。
ルイス・ヴィトン
ルイス・ヴィトン・・・「ルイ・ヴィトン」のベトナム式発音です。英語読み？
ホーチミンにもルイ・ヴィトンのお店がございますが、街中にはコピー製品もあふれています。その辺の市場でも売っているほど。と言う私も先週、ヴィトンの財布を1万ドン（50円！）で購入。なかなか良く出来ています。って、コピー製品は買うほうにも問題がありますよね。公言してはいけないことなのかも。
ベトナムオリジナルと思われる製品もありまして、今まで見た中で面白かったのは、ヴィトンのハンドルカバー（自動車用）、ヴィトンのバイクシート、ヴィトンのシクロ（人力車）の座席カバー、などなど・・・。最近はヴィトンのシャツを着ている女性を良く見かけます。
自分で待っているだけなら・・・と思ってしまうのですが、コピー製品はやはり違法ですし、問題ですよね。DVDや時計も然り。
3つの地方による気質
大まかに分けるとベトナムは3つの地方に分けることが出来ます。北部ベトナム・中部ベトナム・南部ベトナムの3つです。
それぞれに気質があるようで、それぞれの良い面と悪い面を（独断と偏見を含みつつ）下記に示したいと思います。
１．北部ベトナム人
良いところ・・・根性がある。忍耐強い。一度深い信頼関係を築くと頼もしい。
悪いところ・・・金に執着。最初はとっつき辛い。ハノイ以外の方言が何を話しているのか分からない。
２．中部ベトナム人
良いところ・・・勉強家で頭が良い。深い郷土愛を持つ。海に接しているので泳げる人が多い（ベトナム人はけっこう泳げない人が多い）
悪いところ・・・二枚舌。何を考えているのか良く分からない。プライドが高すぎ。
３．南部ベトナム人
良いところ・・・比較的金にクリーン（殆ど見ないが特に生粋のサイゴンっ子は「宵越しの銭は持たなぇ」的）。フレンドリー。
悪いところ・・・根性なし。すぐに裏切る。時間にややルーズ。あまり勤勉ではない（気候もよく資源に恵まれているから？）
