本音と建前（ほんねとたてまえーHONNE TO TATEMAE）


real intention or motive and stated reason


「本音」とはその人が抱く本当の考えです。日本人は公の場ではなかなかそれを出そうとしません。「建前」とは決まった一連の行動をとったり、従来の方針に従う日本人の傾向のことです。

HONNE refers to person's real intention or motive, which the Japanese are reluctant to reveal in public.
TATEMAE refers to the Japanese inclination to take a fixed course of action or follow conventional principles.
