In fact, I am also sad to see old buildings and ancient streets torn down for development not only in Ha Noi but also in HCM City.
In my country, there is the same situation especially in old cities such as Kyoto, Nara, which are ancient capital cities. In those cities, government and local self-governing bodies co-operate together and try to preserve ancient areas. They also try to develop new areas, which is not a blot on the landscape. First, they designate the ancient area as an important cultural assets area and in this area no one can destroy or remove old buildings or ancient streets without permission. If people would like to remove buildings or ancient streets, government and local self-governing bodies designate the new area to preserve them and people follow the regulations.
I'm sure that Viet Nam needs development, but it needs to think about preserving old buildings or ancient streets, educating the youth about Viet Nam's development.
